Welcome to My Personal Page
Many of you may not know what I do for work. I am lucky enough to work at Children's Hospital Colorado with families and patient dealing with Neuromuscular Diseases, like Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, as a Clinical Research Coordinator. What does that mean? I primarily coordinate trials for novel drug therapies to treat these otherwise deadly diseases. I work with our awesome team of Investigators, Physical Therapists, Anesthesiologists and many others to conduct study visits. In doing so, I get to know the participants well, and have a special place in my heart for Cole and his family. Please read more on our Bravery for Cole team page about Cole and what SMA means to him and so many like him. I am fundraising for Cure SMA because they are leading the way to a world without spinal muscular atrophy. SMA is the number one genetic cause of death for infants and 1 in 50 people in the United States is a genetic carrier.
SMA impacts the lives of thousands of people and Cure SMA is an irreplaceable resource. By providing services like care packages for newly diagnosed families, teens, and adults, local Summit of Strength programs, an equipment pool, and the Annual SMA Conference - Cure SMA supports the community as they navigate life with SMA. Cure SMA has also invested more than $80 million in research and has funded half of all the ongoing new drug programs for SMA, including Spinraza and Zolgensma, two FDA-approved therapies for SMA.
Join me by registering or donating today! Make a donation of $25 or more to support Cure SMA so they can keep providing these important programs and services for the community.
About MY journey, and why I am hoping I can make an impact through running...Lots of you have followed along on my journey to a healthier life. You may know that one year ago, on October 20, 2019, I tried to run a 5K with my daughter, and though I had by that time lost lots of weight and improved my fitness...I couldn't run 3.1 miles in a row. I was on a mission! I started getting up before sunrise everyday and getting to the gym and did some running outside when it was nice and I had time. I signed up for a race series that started at 5K and ended with a 10K on my 45th Birthday weekend. I spent the holidays getting miles on the treadmill and when the first 5K came along in January 2019, I just wanted to be able to finish it running the whole way. And I did it! And I Liked it! And I kept improving, and ran the 10K the whole way, too! I signed up for a 10 miler that would happen Mother's Day, and I surpassed my wildest dreams of a PR. I ran 10 miles at 9:07 miles. I had lost 80 pounds and in the process become a runner! I decided at that time that I would do the Denver Rock n Roll half Marathon and run it for CureSMA. I mentioned this to Stephanie at our visit and she jumped on board - We would run it together, and she would push Cole. I have since signed up for a Full Marathon and have continued to wake up almost every day, pre-dawn, to train first and foremost for THIS Race.
If there was ever a great motivator, it would be knowing that I get to run this with these perfectly strong, healthy legs I was squandering for years, and in doing so can help families dealing with SMA. And so now, I have not only been training for finishing a half, but I plan to SMASH IT! Please help me smash SMA, too, with your donation of any size!
Thank you for joining me in the fight against SMA!
