After months of doctor's appointments and physical therapy, our best friends, Anne & Mark, confirmed a couple weeks ago that their 10 month old son Henry has a rare genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants.
This little boy is not your typical little boy. Henry is the happiest, most positive ray of sunshine you have ever seen in your entire life. He has a long road ahead for treatment and we just want to make sure he remains as positive as he is now and his bright light of happiness continues to shine. You can follow Henry's Journey of crushing SMA one day at a time on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hammerinhankthetank/
There is great reason for hope. Thanks to the dedication of our community and the ingenuity of the researchers, they now have the first-ever approved treatment that targets the underlying genetics of SMA. But our work is not done. We know what we need to do to develop and deliver effective therapies. And they’re on the verge of further breakthroughs that will continue to change the course of SMA for everyone affected—from infants to adults—and eventually lead to a cure.
We’ve chosen Cure SMA because they are uniquely positioned to direct funds to where they can make the greatest difference as quickly as possible. They’ve already invested $63 million in research. They also provide vital support for families living with SMA, improving their quality of life today. And every year they host the largest SMA conference in the world, bringing families together with the leading SMA researchers. Making a donation to Cure SMA is easy. Simply click Donate Now to give.
Or join our Team Hank the Tank on the walk Saturday May 12th at 9am in Wompatuck park in Hingham MA.
Thank you for your gift to support those families in need and to fighting this disease together.
Do it for Henry.
