On September 26, 2015, Jeff and Kelly Eakin, welcomed their beautiful identical twin boys, James and Bryce, into the world. After some concerns with their development, Kelly and Jeff began to seek advice from doctors and professionals. In March 2016, the boys were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. SMA Type 1 is the most severe and the most common. There is no cure, but researchers are working hard and believe there is one in our future. Since the boys diagnosis Kelly and Jeff have been working tirelessly to get the boys the best treatment available. The twins are currently enrolled in a drug trial at Boston Children’s Hospital. Every four months they travel to Boston to receive the first-ever approved treatment for SMA called Spinraza. The boys weeks are also packed with different therapies consisting of Physical, Speech, Occupational and Aqua. Between the drug and all of the hard work put in every day the boys are making amazing progress!
